My Travels to Dubai and India – An Epic Journey

April 2019

One of my passions is travelling and as a struggling entrepreneur for many years, I had to put travel on hold. Now, I am happy to say, I have created a business that serves the many and rewards me in so many ways that I can now plan each year to visit the many wonders of the world. My laptop lifestyle is manifesting itself. buy dnp

My girlfriend Alourdes moved to Dubai a year ago. Once she was settled, she invited me to come for a visit. As we chatted on the phone making plans she said, “While you’re here we might as well travel to India for a week. The flight is only 3 hours.” “Yes and Yes”, I said as I had always dreamed of travelling to India and I had fallen in love with the luxurious vibe and architecture of Dubai.

Arriving in Dubai after a 19 hour Emirates flight, I walked out into the warm air ( 30°C ) ahh… I love the heat!! I was greeted at the airport by a Culture Holiday guide as part of our tour to India. I highly recommend Culture Holidays. I did not have to worry about a thing. They took care of everything from check-in/out at 5 star hotels and Palaces, tips, transportation, all meals and have exceptional tour guides in both Dubai and India.

My beautiful friend Alourdes lives in one of the most luxurious condo buildings called The Address Boulevard.  On the main floor is an indoor/outdoor lounge with a view of the Burj Khalifa (tallest building in the world.

My first day there was a highlight of my trip.  I was picked up by my guide Mohammad (video below) and our group experienced a Desert Safari which included an arabic dinner, camel rides and belly dancers. And getting there was too much fun!

Mohammad taught me a lot about the culture of Dubai in the first three days I was there.

Like Las Vegas, Dubai can appear, on the surface, superficial however, I found the city to have a strong spiritual foundation and a deep respect for its people and those who travel here. Did you know there is no poverty in Dubai? No theft. No homeless. No unemployment. The Sheikh takes care of his people. Those born in Dubai do not have to pay medical or for education. And people from over 200 countries live and work there. All faiths are welcome. And women can wear anything they want except if their entering a place of worship.

Some fun facts about Dubai – the police cars are Lamborghini’s, a McLaren, a Bugatti, Ferrari’s and Bentley’s..of course they do. And you can go to an ATM in the Dubai Mall which allows you to a gold bar from 2.5 grams to one ounce gold bar.

We then travelled to India which was a three hour flight from Dubai. The first day in Dehli we went on a rickshaw ride and experienced the dance of chaos as we weaved in and out of the traffic. These people are fearless.

Our bus driver was exceptional. I highly recommend Culture Holidays. The video below was our group driving back to the resort. Watch for the cow! Cows are sacred in India.  These are wild cows. Everyone feeds them.

The contrast of India.  The extreme poverty to the extremely wealthy is only moments apart from each other.  I have a deep compassion for the people of India.

This is one of my favourite photos I took.

The Taj Mahal

We then travelled to Agra and visited the beautiful Taj Mahal.  We had saree’s custom-made. Unfortunately, I bent down to put my water bottle to the side and forgot to put the saree wrap behind me.  lol!

Shiva Villas Palace in Jaipur

We stayed at this opulent Palace for two nights.

Rode an Elephant in Jaipur

Rode an elephant in Jaipur at the Elephant village. I have a deep love for animals and unfortunately, there is a lot of bad press about elephant treatment throughout the world. And it’s a sad reality that elephants aren’t always treated as the majestical creatures they are. We were relieved to hear that the elephants here, grow up with their mahout (elephant tender). Our mahout has been with Lakshmi (the elephant we rode) for 28 years. It is a 24/7 hour job. The elephant lives with him and his family. Not only is it his best friend, but it provides them a living, so they have an incentive to look after it. And it was great to know the government is no longer taking elephants from the wild. Once these elephants are gone – no more riding – although elephants tend to live a very long life, up to 50 years or more.

Back in Dubai for 5 days.  On my last day in India I had a parasite infection. So my first two days back in Dubai was spent in my luxury resort room at the Roda Al Murooj (video below) where I was catered too so lavishly (room service, phone calls to see if I needed anything, they made me broth which was not on the menu, laundry service and a new soft velvety bathrobe every day as I sweat it out.)

On the third day I was resurrected and had a renewed sense of energy. So I travelled to Abu Dhabi which is about an hour and a half from Dubai to experience the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque which is a must to see.

My Last Evening was Spectacular

Alourdes took me to the Atlantis Palm for my last evening in Dubai. What an incredible resort.

Dinner at the Ossana Restaurant which has an incredible view of the aquarium was stunning.  They only serve a 6 course dinner which is 865 Dirham ($316CDN) per person excluding beverages and an 9 course dinner for Dh995 ($364 CDN) per person. And caviar is DH 3010 which is $1100 CDn. We just went for a virgin cocktail as my belly was still healing. Next time!

I trust you enjoyed viewing my amazing adventure.  Life is magical when we believe in possibilities.

Love Karen
